What does it mean to create a font pairing?

The marrying typefaces, finding mixtures of fonts that work, combinations that hit it off, pairings that make sense.

What are the four assignments you chose to do? Write the name of the assignment and describe your design for each.

Buzz- Since the word float is normally associated with clouds, I decided to use a airy script font. While sting really stood out to me the word had to be bold and in your face to get a serious feel of the quote.

Distance- I wanted the word to flow into the background while still being the most iconic thing. By having the words be somewhat transparent it gave the piece the strong yet long full message the quote depicts.

Coffee!!- By crossing out breakfast in a commonly know saying it shows the emphasis on that word. Also by adjusting the background I created the sense that the coffee beans were falling onto the page.

Army- Since the quote I choose is associated with strength I believed the army camo was the way to go. In order to fully show the emphasis on the words and create a sense of power.

Which assignment would you say is your BEST font pairing and why?

“Float like a butterfly sting like a bee” because while some words are airy and light they become balanced by the bold harsh font of the word Sting. Also the coloring allows the message to be clear with little distractions by other items.

Which assignment would you say is your Least Successful font pairing and why?

Army because even though I enjoy the background and the font . To me it seems a little forced in the pairing of the words with the background. They are both very load components I feel it would be better if something were to become softer.

How would you describe the font pairing process? What makes a font pairing so difficult?

Enjoyable to match the words and control what is to be predominant and what has to be hidden away. The difficult part if finding a balance between all the components on the page.
